Cape Town – The DA leader John Steenhuisen has written a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, urging him to take action against EFF leader Julius Malema for chanting the controversial “Dubul’ ibhunu” song.
At the EFF’s 10th birthday celebration at the FNB Stadium, Malema chanted “Kill the boer, kill the farmer,” which has caused concern among opposition parties.
The DA plans to file a case with the United Nations Human Rights Council over the matter.
Steenhuisen highlighted Ramaphosa’s failure to call out Malema for chanting the song and questioned why he has not taken action despite past complaints.
I urge President Ramaphosa to uphold his oath of office and speak out against Julius Malema and his hateful and divisive rhetoric which threatens to destroy the very fabric of South African society. SA belongs to all who live in it, and the President must set a clear example. pic.twitter.com/Z8pKDYUuUk

He accused Ramaphosa of condoning racial division and hatred by not holding Malema accountable for singing the controversial song.
“It is unfathomable that you have never, to date, called out Julius Malema for inciting total anarchy and the mass slaughter of members of our society. In many cases, Julius Malema has targeted the very people who plough our soil, grow our food and feed our nation – the very people who keep us alive.
“And so I urge yo president t Ramaphosa from one peace-loving South African to another to speak out against Julius Malema and the EFF’s radical and dangerous vitriol…,” said Steenhuisen.
The EFF, has, however, claimed that they are protected by the Equality Court’s 2022 judgment, which ruled that the chant did not incite harmful and violent behaviour.
