Cape Town – A nine-month-old boy was reportedly found dead at a crèche in Umganu Circle, Zwelisha in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to South Coast Herald, the Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) members responded to a call from one of the caregivers.
Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram said the infant was discovered naked and unresponsive.
“The child was naked and wrapped in a blanket. Medics examined him and discovered that he showed no signs of life,” the report quoted Balram as saying.
Despite their efforts, the child showed no signs of life.

It was the child’s first day at the crèche, and according to the owner, he had fallen asleep during lunch and was found unresponsive during a wellness check conducted four hours later.
An inquest has been opened to investigate the incident.
Following the incident, Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza, has called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the child, Times Live reported.
“We are extremely shocked by the incident, but we pin our trust on the police to get to the bottom of this
“The family and public deserve to know what happened and whether negligence or malpractice played a role.
“This incident underscores the need for stringent regulations and standards in childcare centres to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children,” the report quoted Khoza as saying.
