Cape Town – A truck driver in KwaZulu-Natal is reportedly in serious condition after crashing his truck and being attacked by unknown assailants.
According to The Citizen, the incident occurred on the N2 northbound before Spaghetti Junction on Sunday night.
ALS Paramedics said the suspects placed rocks on the road, causing the truck to collide with them and crash into a barrier.
“As the driver exited the vehicle, he was robbed and stabbed in the chest. The patient, a male in his twenties, is in a serious condition and is being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
“All necessary role players were on scene. ALS Paramedics would like to encourage people to avoid using the N2 near Chesterville, especially at night, as this rock placing seems an ongoing issue,” the report quoted spokesperson Garrith Jamieson as saying.
In response to the truck attacks, the South African Police Services (Saps) have made five arrests in Mpumalanga and expect more arrests to follow.
The suspects will appear in court on Monday.
These attacks have been occurring in various provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng.
The police believe they are closing in on the ring leaders responsible for these acts of criminality.
