Cape Town – The Cape of Good Hope SPCA rescued a German Shepherd named Courage who was found buried in a one-metre deep hole on a field in The Hague, Delft, last weekend.
The SPCA received a distress call from a concerned resident who saw the dog seeking shelter under a concrete slab.
The hole had been covered with sand, trapping the dog inside.
The SPCA team responded and spent about 10 minutes digging through the sand to rescue Courage.
The dog had been in the hole for around two hours before help arrived.
Courage was taken to the SPCA hospital for treatment and was found to be dirty, neglected, and emaciated but thankfully tested negative for diseases.
He is receiving treatment and care to aid his recovery.
The SPCA expressed gratitude to the person who reported the incident and vowed to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this act of cruelty.
Courage has a long road to recovery ahead but is showing bravery and winning hearts along the way, said SPCA.
